Thomas Deckker has been appointed a Fellow of the Geddes Institute for Urban Research, to pursue research topics of personal interest and of benefit to the School.

Thomas Deckker is undertaking research into urban design in Brazil, and Brasilia in particular, as a Visiting Researcher at King's College London.

Thomas Deckker published Brasília: Life Beyond Utopia with a lecture at the Brazil Institute, Kings College London and an exhibition at the McAslan Gallery, London in 2016.

In 2014 Thomas Deckker lectured on Urban Planning in Rio 1870-1930: the Construction of Modernity at the Brazil Institute, Kings College London.

Thomas Deckker has published his first article relating to tower houses on Edzell Castle: Architectural Treatises in Late 16th Century Scotland.

The University of Dundee holds an archive of mathematical models from 3 generations of professors: Thomas Claxton Fidler (1841-1917), John Steggall (1855-1935) and William Peddie (1861-1946), all who had connections with Patrick Geddes and D'Arcy Wentworth Thompson, the author ofOn Growth and Form, thus indirectly influencing architects and engineers around the world.

Thomas Deckker proposed an exhibition of mathematical models in architecture, from the Platonic Solids to the advanced geometry of parametric objects.

Thomas Deckker believed that an exhibition of drawing instruments could be tied into a programme of beautiful drawing, whether by hand or by computer.

Following the very successful studies of tower houses with Charles Rattray in the MArch programme, and in conjunction with a former student Douglas Pearson, Thomas Deckker proposed a summer school of tower house studies.
