I became fascinated with the idea of a small house, with one room on each floor, embedded in a forest. Unlike the projects for the Tower House with 3 Staircases and Small Tower House this Tower has no Staircase - access to each floor is by a ladder. The plan enjoys the spatial discipline of the tower house except on the top floor where only a vestige remains, a fireplace sharing a chimney with the ground floor. This floor has an almost completely circular view.
Forests have a profound symbolic authority as well as presenting a powerful spatial experience. See, for example, Robert Rosenblum: Modern Painting and the Northern Romantic Tradition and Simon Schama: Landscape and Memory.
